My Hero
I had to think very hard on the question of who is my hero. I am fifty years old and the one person who came to me is this person who would not give up on me. I've known her for fourteen years now. I talked to her on the phone about six times before I even met her. Her name is Sandy. My teacher.
Winter's On the Way
The last of the leaves have fallen. Here in Minnesota, you can see all the people in their orange coats walking in the cornfields and along the roadways looking for deer. All the summer, birds are migrating and winter birds are on their way through to their winter homes. We have some birds that stay all year round.
In Minnesota, time change is a good indication that snow is on its way here. Today is Nov. 2 and it's 70 outside and in two days from now they are calling for rain and snow. Over the weekend I had to put up my motorcycle and I got my snowmobile put up for all the snow that is on the way here.
I live in the countryside, and we get a lot of snow -- so much so we got snowed in for four days and not even a week later we were snowed in for six more days. I take my sled to the store for small items. Sometimes I'll take the long way home and it takes you 30 miles out of your way. If I go on a ride, I'll do 100 to 200 miles on that day.
A good winter is when it doesn't end until April, but I would like it to go straight into summer just so I can pull the bike out again.
My Favorite Sport
The only thing I can think about is snow, when it is going andhow long it is going to be around. I love snowmobile racing. I love to ride, too. My son is very good at it, racing that is. At the age 12 and 13, he won every race he was in. When he was 16, he wonthe Winter X games in hillcross, and won his way to the world's biggest race. The race is the big one with the fast racers from all countries. It is invite only. by winnning the X Games, he was invited to Wyoming. It's a five-day race. I find myself looking for the races on TV and magazines and sometimes I see my son on the pages.
A Book About Me
If I were to write a book about me, I'd call it "Fishing All the Time."
I would start by telling the readers about my younger days. I would tell them I was the oldest girl of a family of seven, and that I did a lot of sports in school. I would write about the time that I was in a fishing contest, girls against the boys. The girls won 83 to 26. That would make them wonder who are the better fishing people.
Next, I would write about the way I am today. I would say that I enjoy different sports and why, and that I would rather not go back in time to do it again. I would explain that my favorite things in the world are motorcycle, fishing, sewing and my grandchildren.
Then I would write about my future plans. Someday I would like to take my bike on a road trip and fish my way through the states.
I would tell my readers that if I had one wish, it would be that all the lakes stay clean so we can eat all the fish we need.
I hope that when my readers finish my book, they would think of me as a very energetic person. |
