Tip 13: Phone Book Scan
Purpose: Learners practicing looking things up in the phone book and create an information gap using the numbers they looked up. This activity practices scanning, alphabetizing, using numbers and speaking skills. Preparation Time: 10
minutes to photocopy a page from the phone book and create the info gap
template. Materials: phone book, enough copies of one page from the phone book for each student, paper and pencils Preparation:
John Smythe _____________ 2. Make enough copies of that page for each
student to have one, plus half that number. If you have six learners,
you should make nine copies of the info gap. 3. Cut enough copies of the info gap in
half so that each learner can have one whole copy and half of another
copy. For a class of six learners, three copies should be cut in half.
5. Put learners into pairs so that one learner has the numbers written that the other learner does not. Learners must ask each other, "What is the number for _______?" to get the telphone numbers. 6. When pairs have filled in all the missing information, they should compare their sheets to see how successful their communication was. |
