Tutor Tip 14: Putting Things in Order

Purpose: to practice sequence and noticing details; reading and writing.

Preparation Time: none

Materials: pens, paper, scissors

Preparation: none

Procedure:
  1. As a class, generate a list of "how to" topics, such as making a sandwich, changing a tire, doing laundry, changing a diaper, making a pizza.
  2. Put the students into groups or pairs. Have each group pick a topic.
  3. Each group should brainstorm the steps in doing the task. They should then write the steps down in order.
  4. Have each group cut the steps apart with a scissors.
  5. Groups should exchange slips. Have them try to put the slips in the correct order.
