Tutor Tip #5: Help With Word Endings

Purpose: To help students practice word endings.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Materials: index cards or slips of paper; paper and pencil.

Preparation: List a number of familiar root words such as jump, rain, start, etc. on index cards. On a second set of index cards, list endings such as -ing, -ed, -s.

Procedure:

  1. Shuffle the pack of root words. Have the student pick a word.
  2. Have the student write the word on a piece of paper.
  3. Have the student pick an ending card.
  4. Have the student add the ending to the word and then read the word.
